Honeymoon on the Charles: newlyweds Andrew Reed and Alex Spaulding must've thought that 4800 meters of racing a small boat in the rain sounded romantic. They put down the fastest raw time in the Director's Challenge Mixed Double today, taking 3rd overall on the handicapped time, and just a couple of hours after Reed collected a win in the Harvard Alumni Eight.
Line Up of the Day: Goes to the Belmont Hill Alumni Four, with William Ryan at stroke and Ryan Williams at cox--plus the Wilkins brothers in 3 and 2, Andrew and Nicholas. Hope poor bow man Jens Odegard didn't feel left out.

Best Use of HOCR Downtime: Yesterday, while waiting to launch for practice, a crew set their boat up on slings and played Uno underneath the boat.
Best Use of HOCR Downtime, South Africa Edition: the boys from St. Benedict's School, RSA, planned to spend the "you can't practice on the water" Saturday pulling a quick ergo and then catching the South Africa-England rugby match, which was a cracker for the Springboks.
Lessons in Chemistry at the Charles: Bonnie Garmus, author of the novel with a bit of rowing in it, helped give out medals today.
Got Mylar? You know the weather is less-than-optimal when folks start breaking out the mylar blankets.
